Druk Gyalpo Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck

Druk Gyalpo Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck was born on 21 February 1980, to Drukgyal Zhipa Jigme Singye Wangchuck and Gyalyum Ashi Tshering Yangdon in Dechencholing Palace, Thimphu.

His Majesty completed his higher secondary studies at Yangchenphug High School, Bhutan, and before studying abroad and graduating from Magdalen College, University of Oxford.

On 31 October 2004, His Majesty was installed as the 16th Trongsa Penlop in Trongsa Dzong.

In December 2005, the King Jigme Singye Wangchuck announced his intention to abdicate in his son’s favour in 2008 and that he would begin handing over responsibility to the Trongsa Penlop immediately.

On 9 December 2006, Drukgyal Zhipa issued a Royal Edict announcing his abdication, and transferred the throne to Crown Prince Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. His Majesty was officially crowned on 6 November 2008, in Punakha.

He married Gyaltsuen Azhi Jetsun Pema on 13 October 2011 in Punakha Dzong.

His Royal Highness The Gyalsey Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck was born in 5 February 2016 at Lingkana Palace, Bhutan
